Concrete Life Cycle Design

چکیده

Design and procurement based on holistic whole life appraisal can improve functional quality and, therefore, the overall cost effectiveness and performance of buildings. It is furthermore expected these principles can strengthen the competitiveness of concrete. The initial part of the work, analysed requirements on buildings and how concrete provides answers to these. Life cycle costing, environmental load assessment, service life planning and integrated design were adapted to concrete residential buildings. A toolbox for integrated life cycle design was compiled and verified on existing residential buildings. Currently the method is employed in real projects to evaluate and develop its practicability and to assess the potential improvement on building performance that can be achieved. The first applications on real projects indicate that concrete alternatives are advantageous compared to other building materials in regard of functional quality, life cycle cost and environmental loads.
